Wiek (Rotor) is a dance/theater collaboration between director Boukje Schweigman and the Dutch composer Douwe Eisenga. The score is written for saxophone quartet, piano and sampled percussion. All saxes are played by Erik-Jan de With (Python Saxophone Quartet).
The music is, even without the theatrical elements, a beautiful listening-experience.
According to the press the DNA of Eisenga’s work bears a likeness to Philip Glass and the Flemish composer Wim Mertens: ‘A bridge between pop music and minimal music’. This quote is certainly true for Music for Wiek, with hypnotizing patterns, thundering drums, pounding saxes and lyrical piano’s.

KLASSIEKE ZAKEN Together with the fantastic saxophonist Erik-Jan de With, Eisenga drags the listener into a musical world where dreamy melancholy and accelerating sequences alternate with a lot of excitement. Inevitable and very compelling. Cornell Evers

NRC - fascinating, gradually stirring music
VOLKSKRANT In Wiek three wings are rotating. Wings of an inexorable machine that will not stop the whole performance, propelling and hunting three dancers. Ever spinning, one hour long, and ever faster. First the girls are beaten by it, later, as their movements are more complex, it seems like they drive the blades. The limitation turns into their power. Wiek is a masterful tribute to the cyclical movement. With as a second major driving force Douwe Eisenga’s composition that crescendo targets to multiple climaxes. Vincent Kouters

8WEEKLY - a perfect symbiosisTHEATER CENTRAAL The music Douwe Eisenga takes the dance to a higher level. He composed a full immersive soundtrack..... The music is a basic element in this performance that ensures that the public can handle 70 minutes of spiral movements. The warm sounds and the rotating bodies merge into a hypnotic unity. The ear pleasing music, the symmetrical shapes, the fluid movements and the soothing rhythm result in a beautiful, meditative performance. Mayke Klomp
